THERESA ELIZABETH SZOKODY
| OBITUARY: Szokody, Theresa Elizabeth (November 21, 1919 - June 15, 2008) Theresa Elizabeth Szokody, 88, of Beloit, WI, died Sunday, June 15, 2008 at the UW Hospital in Madison as a result of trauma to her head from a fall. She was born November 21, 1919 in Gyor, Hungary. Her uncle, a Catholic Cardinal, was able to enroll Theresa in a prestigious convent school as a child. She lived in Holland during the summers. After WWII, she fled to Germany where she met a fellow Hungarian refugee working for the United States Army. Soon thereafter, they married. In 1951, the UnitarianChurch in Davenport, IA, sponsored Theresa to come to America with her husband and two young boys. One year later, three year old son Johnny died, soon followed by the birth of daughter Suzanne. The family moved to Beloit in 1955 where husband Joe spent nearly 40 years at Beloit Corporation. They moved to places such as Switzerland and Brazil, but ultimately called Beloit home. She spoke five languages. Theresa was a very proud volunteer at BeloitMemorialHospital for nearly 50 years. She was proficient at crocheting, knitting, and needlepoint. She has left behind many beautiful creations. Theresa will always be remembered for her kind heart and loving ways. Survived by: Son, Joseph Attila Szokody; Grandchildren, Joseph (wife Jessica) Thorsen, Julia Szokody, John Janos Szokody, Joshua Thorsen, Valerie Thorsen; Great-grandchildren: Kevin, Alexis, Savanna, Davin Thorsen. |
